Lost In Havana

LOST IN HAVANA
I’m lost in Havana
In the streets of Vieja
In the company of saints
And the smell of Spanish leather
The rum runners are running
To the lights of bar Madrid
And the stars in the gutter
Are shining for me
I’m lost in Havana
My eyes are out of focus,
I see the sharpening of blades
The smell of patchouli
The Cuban's are wearing shades
‘There’s no need to leave
we’re all of a kind’
I heard a voice say
"It’s too late to change your mind"
I’m lost in Havana
Don’t give me your heart you said
You’ll be gone by the dawn you said
It’s not over, it’s not daylight
And the rain won’t lead me home
I’m lost in Havana

Trouble

TROUBLE
I’ve been trouble since the day that I was born
I’ve been drunk and I’ve stoned I’ve tried it all
I’ve been beaten and arrested and thrown in jail
But that’s never stopped me living the life I live.
I was trouble for my mother
I was trouble for them all
For my father, for my brother
I was trouble for anyone
I was camouflaged and battle scared
And full of retribution
I’ve got requiems and litanies
Sung in institutions.
I was trouble for the teachers
I was trouble for the priests
For my neighbours for my friends
For the lawyers and police
I’ve been victimised and ostracised
confused and accused
I’ve been scared and ashamed
Just like a man
I’ve been trouble since the day that I was born
From the start I was heading for a fall
I told them all it was not my middle name
But that’s never stopped me trying not to fail.
I’ve been trouble since the day that I was born
From when they opened up the curtains on the dawn
I’ve been lonely and alone and out on bail
But that’s never stopped me living the life I live.
I was trouble for my mother
I was trouble for them all
For my father, for my brother
I was trouble for anyone
I was camouflaged and battle scared
And full of retribution
But I’ve never hurt anyone
As much as I’ve been hurt.

Too Long

TOO LONG
I’ve been standing at the corner of which way and there
Looking at all the people, trying not to stare
Some of them look bewildered and
Some of them are looking scared
I’m standing at this corner, trying not to stare
And I’ve been waiting too long
I’ve been this way before, I’ll guess I’ll be this way again
There’s a way that lasts forever, right up to the end
You said I don’t know what I want from you
Well neither do I,
I’ve been standing at this corner trying not to pry
And I’ve been waiting too long
I'm standing at the corner of a road that isn’t there
Look at all people, they’re trying not to stare
Well some of them look like killers,
Some of them wouldn’t dare
I’m standing at this corner, trying not to care
And I’ve been waiting too long
I lived this life before, but I won’t live this life again
It’s a life that leads me nowhere, filled with misery and pain
You said you don’t know where I’m going to,
Well neither do I
I’ve been standing at this corner, wishing I could fly
And I’ve been waiting too long

Tides Are Turning

TIDES ARE TURNING
I’ve been down and out, in spooky town
I’ve been chasing dragons, down
I’ve been wishing I was blind
Wishing pain will heal the time
I’ve found faith in every spirit
I have downed.
It’s all because of you
There’s something in the way you move
It’s all because of you
There’s something just you do
It’s all because of you
You’re the reason things are changing
It’s all because of you
You’re the reason tides are turning
I’ve seen you up and in with your, pink Champagne
And your diamonds and pearls and cocaine
Wishing you were someone else
Wishing I was somewhere else
I found hope in every word
I ever heard.
It’s all because of you
There’s something in the way you move
It’s all because of you
There’s something just you do
It’s all because of you
You’re the reason things are changing
It’s all because of you
You’re the reason tides are turning

New Borders
03:54
|

NEW BORDERS
I’ve seen them coming at me
In the middle of the night
Carving their new borders
With their long knives
I’ve seen them in the darkness
I’ve seen them from up close
I know what they are doing
I gave them enough rope.
There is murder in the darkness
There are bodies on the road
There are trees adored with madness
I can't take this heavy load
They are marching all the living
And the dying to the end
There will be no salvation
When there’s nothing to defend.
The future’s coming at me
It’s coming down the road
Our history’s behind us
I can’t take its heavy load
The present is the present
And it’s way out of hand
It’s time to take a bullet
It’s time to take a stand

On Higher Ground

ON HIGHER GROUND
I didn’t hear you when you said
That you were leaving
I didn’t hear you when you said
That we had lost
I didn’t hear you when you said
They would kill me
I couldn’t hear you through the chaos
And the loss
I want to live where it never snows
I want to live where no one knows
I want to live where no one goes
I want to live on higher ground
There are atheists in the choir
And they’re singing out of tune
There are Christians in the synagogue
Barking at the moon
They’re coming from the deserts
They’re moving across the land
There’s movement in the water
I see trails in the sand
I want to live where it never snows
I want to live where no one knows
I want to live where no one goes
I want to live on higher ground
There are slaves in the wheat field
Trying to survive
The heroes on the battlefield
Taking their own lives
I see children with their mothers
Sleeping in the road
Is the killing almost over
Can we take our children home.
I want to live where it never snows
I want to live where no one knows
I want to live where no one goes
I want to live on higher ground

Blind Soul

BLIND SOUL
When I’m dead and my spirit gone
Place an acorn in my palm
Plant me deep in the potter’s ground
Sing a song and make it loud
I was born on my own
And I’ll die on my own
No long goodbyes or tears I’ll cry
I’ll be up and gone with my blind soul
I see the train is coming
It’s coming to take me back
It’s coming to Take me home
Take me down the track

In The End
03:29
|

IN THE END
I could feel not a thing
As I sank beneath the sea
Everything is calm in the end
I feel alone with my beating heart
On and on from the start
Everything is calm in the end
The water’s warm in my lungs
No pain inside my crippled bones
Everything is calm in the end
I see your face your open arms
I feel your love I know your grace
Everything is calm in the end
